JIM IRWIN

Jim Irwin is President of New City Properties, where he leads the firm’s development strategy, investment activities, consulting operations, and new business initiatives. Over the course of his career, Jim has been responsible for more than $2.5 billion in real estate investments across the United States, with a focus on complex, mixed-use environments and large-scale adaptive reuse projects.

Prior to founding New City in 2016, Jim served as Senior Vice President at Jamestown, where he led the development of Ponce City Market, a transformative 2.1-million-square-foot adaptive reuse of a former Sears, Roebuck & Co. distribution center originally constructed in the 1920s. Widely regarded as one of the most significant historic redevelopments in the country, the project received the Urban Land Institute’s Global Award for Excellence and helped catalyze the revitalization of Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward.

Under Jim’s leadership, New City has developed a reputation for delivering high-impact, design-forward projects that integrate seamlessly into their surrounding communities. Notable developments include:

  • 725 Ponce — a 370,000-square-foot Class A office building positioned along the Atlanta BeltLine
  • The 4th Ward — a 2+ million-square-foot mixed-use district featuring more than 500,000 square feet of office space, a 359-unit multifamily tower, and a Michelin Key boutique hotel and social club
  • Neuhoff — a 1.2+ million-square-foot adaptive reuse project in Nashville’s Germantown neighborhood, anchored by the preservation of a historic meatpacking facility
  • The Foundries District — a 120-acre master-planned development in Chattanooga, Tennessee, centered around a minor league baseball stadium

Jim earned a Bachelor of Arts from Dartmouth College, where he played football for four years. He began his career in Washington, D.C., serving as a legislative aide to two U.S. senators and a member of the U.S. House of Representatives before returning to Atlanta to pursue an MBA with a concentration in real estate finance from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School.

Jim lives in Atlanta with his wife, Elisabeth, and their three children.
